SMMC offers age-based playgroups to members which can be joined via the self-service tool on our BigTent site. An age-based playgroup is typically comprised of mothers with children born within a 3 month range in a given year and are segmented according to first time or second time (or more!) moms (e.g., 2009 January through March First Time Moms or 2009 January through March Second Time Moms, 2009 Working Moms). Each age-based playgroup is capped at approximately 12-15 members at which point a new group would be opened for moms and children fitting the relevant criteria. We almost always have a group open that fits the needs of each mom!

Each group is “self-governed” and has one of the members act as a “Playgroup Leader.” The Playgroup Leader will help maintain the momentum of the playgroup, help set direction relative to the playgroup meetings and ensure that the group meets on a regular basis. Each group develops their own "style" and "feel" and determines what works well for its member over time. Note that it may take a bit of time for the group to completely gel and figure out a schedule that works...only to have that schedule change as the children get older! Most SMMC members feel their playgroup is one of the most rewarding perks of membership in the club!
